Getting Space Access

Facilities access:

  1. You will need access to OLRI outside doors, OLRI276, OLRI275, and the biology prep room
    1. Michelle will email Ellen, prepare to share your student IDs with Ellen individually.
  2. Animal Facilities: card to main OLRI165, key to OLRI165F (surgery suite), elevator to animal facilities, OLRI165H, OLRI165G, OLRI165N
    1. Michelle will email Jamie, prepare to share your student IDs with Jamie individually.

Equipment access:

  1. Confocal training and card access
  2. Cryostat training and access

Lab tools access:

  1. Join the Tong Research Group Slack Workspace
    1. You can use Slack as a mobile app, through your web browser, and/or as an desktop app. I recommend having the mobile and desktop app!

    2. Make sure you add your pronouns (if you’d like), your full name, and a photo

    3. Make sure that you have joined all the Channels

    4. you have control over your own notifications, so feel free to adjust as you’d like. I suggest having them on whenever you know we’re gonna be doing experiments!

  2. Hyperlink this lab protocols wiki!
    1. you’ll likely find yourself checking here for the protocol and documents to use for record keeping
  3. Make sure you’ve been added to the Tong Research Group Google Shared Drive (different from a shared folder) and that you see where your project folder is located.
    1. your project may create it’s own Google calendar

Research timeline logistics:

  1. Discuss travel and away schedule, holidays observed, etc.
  2. Discuss overall week by week plans, roughly.
  3. Decide on: (a) weekly lab meeting time/date; (b) E/O journal club meeting time/date/readings
  4. Check for completion of animal usage, safety, ethics
